DocsMD vs Lighthouse 360: a revenue engine vs automated dental communication

Lighthouse 360 is a long-running name in dental reminders and recall, owned by Henry Schein One. DocsMD is a Patient Revenue Engine whose dental edition, DocsDDS, is measured by the dollars it recovers. They overlap on recall and open slots but answer different questions. This guide lays out the differences using what each company publishes.

Key takeaways
  • Lighthouse 360 automates dental patient communication: reminders, AutoConfirm, recall, open-slot fill, texting, forms, booking and reviews.
  • It syncs with the practice management system every 10 minutes and supports a long list of dental platforms.
  • Lighthouse 360 doesn't publish pricing or a BAA statement on its site; it does advertise no annual commitment.
  • DocsMD publishes its price, signs a BAA before any data moves, and itemizes every recovered visit in dollars each week.

What Lighthouse 360 is

Lighthouse 360 is automated patient communication software for dental practices, owned by Henry Schein One. Its site claims more than 11,000 dental clients, and Henry Schein One describes it as serving single-location practices, groups and DSOs in the United States, Canada and the UK.

Its features include appointment reminders and AutoConfirm, automated continuing care (recall), procedure-based reminders, a fill-appointment tool for open slots, two-way texting with message history, digital forms, online booking, review requests, email campaigns, and add-on services called PhoneSight and Reputation Plus. It says it syncs with the practice management system every 10 minutes, and its supported platforms include Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Dolphin, OrthoTrac, Softdent, PracticeWorks, ABELDent and others.

Lighthouse 360 doesn't advertise AI features on its main pages. That is not a criticism; many practices prefer predictable, rules-based automation.

What DocsMD is

DocsMD is a Patient Revenue Engine for independent practices, with editions for dental (DocsDDS), physical therapy (DocsDPT) and other doctor-led practices (DocsDr). It runs a loop of detect, decide, act, prove around the clock on missed calls, cancellations, no-shows, overdue patients and insurance gaps, and its Patient Lobby™ catches patients who check in, wait and leave unseen.

It starts from the schedule export the practice system already produces. There's no installation and no system access; bookings go to the front desk to enter, and DocsMD Hold blocks can reserve times in the schedule.

Side by side

  • Pricing. Lighthouse 360 doesn't publish its pricing; its Lighthouse 360+ bundle is quoted. DocsMD is $1,149 per location per month, or $699 for the first five practices in each metro under the Founder Rate, locked while subscribed, with no per-message or per-user fees.
  • Contract. Lighthouse 360's bundle page says practices can get started with no annual commitment. Term length, cancellation notice and setup fees aren't published. DocsMD uses a 12-month agreement backed by its Recovery Guarantee.
  • What it does. Lighthouse 360 automates the communication a dental office sends: reminders, confirmations, recall and open-slot messages. DocsMD is responsible for an outcome: finding revenue at risk, acting on it and proving what came back.
  • BAA. Lighthouse 360's site, privacy policy and Henry Schein One's product page don't state whether it signs a Business Associate Agreement, so ask for one in writing. DocsMD signs a BAA with every practice before any patient data moves, including for the free leak audit.
  • AI approach. Lighthouse 360 doesn't advertise AI features. DocsMD uses automation and AI carefully: most patient replies are numbered menus that never reach an AI model, texts carry only the practice name, times and choices, and patient data is never used to train AI.
  • How results are measured. Lighthouse 360 publishes no specific results method on the pages reviewed. DocsMD reports each recovered visit by patient, date, action and dollar amount weekly, and guarantees at least 2x its fee each month or the next month is free.

Sending a fill message vs proving the fill

Most dental communication tools, Lighthouse 360 included, can message patients when a slot opens. That is useful. The question a practice owner should ask next is: how many of those messages turned into a patient in the chair, and what were those visits worth?

Here is a simple weekly tally any office can run by hand. For every open-slot message sent, record three things: did someone reply, did someone book, and did that person show up. Then multiply the kept visits by the procedure value. Say an office sends fill messages for 12 cancelled hygiene slots in a week, gets 8 replies, books 6 and sees 5. At an illustrative $180 per visit, that is $900 recovered, not 12 messages sent.

Doing this by hand for a month tells you whether your current tool is earning its fee. A Patient Revenue Engine does the same tally automatically and puts it in a report.

Getting a BAA when a vendor doesn't publish one

Under HIPAA, a practice is expected to have a Business Associate Agreement with any vendor that handles patient information on its behalf. When a vendor's website doesn't mention a BAA, the step is simple: ask for it before you sign, read it, and keep the signed copy.

Three things to check in any BAA: which products and services it covers, how quickly the vendor must report a breach to you, and what happens to your patient data when the contract ends. If a vendor uses subcontractors that touch patient data, the BAA should say they're bound by the same rules.

Which one is the better fit

Lighthouse 360 is a strong fit for a dental practice that wants established, rules-based reminders, confirmations and recall tightly synced with its dental practice management system, from a vendor that also stands behind Dentrix, and that values starting without an annual commitment.

DocsMD fits a practice that already sends reminders, or is happy to keep them where they are, and wants an accountable layer on top that recovers missed calls, refills cancellations, reactivates overdue patients and proves every dollar each week. It is also built for medical and physical therapy practices, where Lighthouse 360 isn't positioned.

How DocsMD handles this

Count the kept visits, not the messages

DocsDDS, the dental edition of DocsMD, starts with a free leak audit of your schedule export under a signed BAA. Once live it runs detect, decide, act, prove day and night, itemizes every recovered visit weekly, and guarantees at least 2x your fee every month, or your next month is free. See your leak audit.

Questions

How much does Lighthouse 360 cost?

Lighthouse 360 doesn't publish its pricing; its bundle page asks practices to contact sales. Its bundle page does say you can start with no annual commitment.

Does Lighthouse 360 sign a BAA?

Its website, privacy policy and Henry Schein One's product page don't say. Ask the vendor for a Business Associate Agreement in writing before any patient data moves.

Is Lighthouse 360 SOC 2 certified?

Lighthouse 360 doesn't state a SOC 2 report for itself on the pages reviewed. Henry Schein One's trust center mentions SOC 2 audits, but the reports listed reference other products, so ask the vendor for the scope directly.

Does DocsMD sync with my dental software?

DocsMD doesn't claim a direct integration. It works alongside your system from the schedule export it already produces, and bookings are handed to your front desk to enter.
